Magnon dispersion of toroidal spin glass NixMn1-xTiO3, x=0.42
Spin-induced ferroelectricity and giant magnetoelectric effects in frustrated transition-metal-oxides attract much interest due to their exciting physical mechanism and due to their potential applications. In contrast to most of the systems which have been studied so far and which have long-range magnetic order, NixMn1-xTiO3 is a spin-glass system, and yet an antisymm. magnetoelectric effect has recently been identified in it. In the phase diagram it is nevertheless close to two competing magnetically ordered phases. In a previous first experiment we have started to study the short range magnetic order and the field effect on it, and also identified magnetic excitations from the spin glass state which are so far little understood. The aim of this proposal is to characterize these newly identified excitations.
