Magnetic excitations in the new heavy-fermion superconductor CeRh2As2
Unconventional heavy-fermion superconductivity emanating from a crystal-field quartet ground state is a highly unique behavior and therefore very fascinating. CeRh2As2 appears to be a realization of such an unusual situation and attracts additional attention due to its vicinity to quantum criticality and its locally non-centrosymmetric crystal structure. The latter results in Rashba-type spin-orbit interactions promoting a non-s-wave superconducting state. The former allows for higher-order f-orbital (e.g. quadrupolar) moments resulting in possible exotic quantum phases. For an initial understanding of the rich physics in CeRh2As2, the knowledge of the characteristic energy scales is highly important. In this study we want to focus on the CEF excitations and the low-energy spin dynamics and propose powder INS measurements.
