Proton localization in Sr2ScGaO5(H20)0.5
Oxygen deficient perovskites are important electrolytes/membranes for energy conversion, due to their high oxygen ion conductivity at already moderate temperatures. While SrSc0.5Ga0.5O2.5 shows a quite elevated oxygen ion conductivity already at moderate temperatures, water uptake yields into SrSc0.5Ga0.5O2.5(H20)0.5 showing an increased ion conductivity by one order of magnitude, due to proton conductivity. The high protonic concentration should allow to localize the proton positions in the structure using NPD, and to analyze the respective diffusion mechanism.
