Investigation of crystal and magnetic structure for new spinel-type magnesium battery material
This study takes place within the investigation of new spinel-type magnesium oxide, MgCoMnO4 and MgFeMnO4, in connection with their potential exotic magnetic states. New magnesium oxide “MgCoMnO4” and “MgFeMnO4”, which have found important applications as a cathode material in magnesium ion batteries. Despite the interest from the electrochemical point of view, there are the potential interesting of structural and magnetic properties due to the frustrated spinel structure framework. Laboratory characterizations show that both compounds have the same crystal structure at RT whereas the magnetic properties examined by magnetization measurements are totally differenced in between. This motivates us to study these compounds by neutron diffraction, in order to investigate detail of crystal structure (including oxygen positions and cation distributions ) and unveil their magnetic structures.
