Nanostructure of a library of thermogelling materials based on ABA block copolymers
Thermogelling block-copolymers are promising materials for in-situ gelation applications, such as injectable delivery, tissue engineering and depot formulations. We have synthesised a library of ABA block copolymers by varying the type of the “A” block exhibiting an LCST, namely: PNIPAM-PEG-PNIPAM, PDEGMEMA-PEG-PDEGMEMA, and PDMAEMA-PEG-PDMAEMA, which show various profiles of thermogelation, based on oscillatory rheology measurements. The objective is to explore the effect of the type of LCST-exhibiting polymer and its molecular weight on the thermogelling behaviour. To our knowledge, there are no studies making a systematic comparison of the LCST-exhibiting block. In order to elucidate gel formation mechanisms across polymer types, and bring an understanding on how nanostructure relate to thermogelling behaviour in these ABA block copolymers, we request access to neutron beam time.
